The
Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University continues its successful
TopSpin series with an exhibition of paintings by Niagara Falls native
Robert Lynch. "Drink Orange Juice and Hang Out with the Horses" is on view through September 16, 2007.
Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Robert Lynch attended Buffalo State College, where he developed a reputation as an inspired and versatile painter. He has taught fine art at Lewiston-Porter High School, ArtPark, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Buffalo Arts Studio. He currently teaches art at Niagara Falls High School. Lynch's paintings are included in the permanent collections of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Hard Rock Café, and the Niagara Aquarium as well as in numerous private collections nationwide.
According to curator Michael Beam, Lynch's "innate ability to combine a myriad of portraits, figures, colors, and stylized text into surprising narratives elevates this exhibition from a visual display of random images to a celebration of cohesive themes."
Many of Lynch's images are culled from Google searches that produce surprising results. For example, a search for "apple" might result in images people named Apple, pets, computers and pod-watches in additional to the obvious. The title of the exhibition, "Drink Orange Juice and Hang Out with the Horses" comes from a friend's internet blog.
Lynch says of his work, "I record the strange little enigmas that capture my attention as I go through my days. Those notes become food for paintings that point to an absurd, beautiful existence."
"Robert Lynch: Drink Orange Juice and Hang Out with the Horses" runs from May 4 - September 16, 2007 in the museum's TopSpin gallery. This juried series of solo exhibitions draws from the richly diverse work of regional artists. TopSpin is made possible through the generous support of Tops Markets. For more information, please call
