As part of the Buffalo City Mission's "Great Sleep Out for the Homeless" on July 13, the public can now attend a fun-filled evening at UB Stadium from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
The Buffalo City Mission is opening up part of its upcoming first annual Great Sleep Out for the Homeless to the public. Those who cannot participate in the entire sleep out but would like to hear world-traveled speaker Mark Cahill, Kingdom Bound headliner rock band Relevant Worship, the high-energy soulful sounds of internationally-known Nathan Salter's Worship Team, and Christian rap artist Bang Theory, may come hear the inspirational words and music on Friday, July 13 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the University of Buffalo's North Campus UB Stadium. The cost is $25 and may be paid at the stadium gate, or paid in advance by visiting
www.buffalocitymission.org or calling Aubrey Calhoun at (716) 348-3101.
The larger "Great Sleep Out" event takes place on UB Stadium's infield from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. the following morning, and is particularly geared toward the younger generation. People of all ages who wish to come hear the speaker and the "Concert Under the Stars" should arrive at 7:30 p.m.
Mark Cahill (
www.markcahill.org) begins the evening at 8 p.m. by providing powerful messages about making right life choices and the importance of having faith. The former Academic All-American in NCAA basketball speaks to more than 25,000 people each year and is the author of One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven.
Relevant Worship (
www.relevantworshipmusic.com), a Buffalo-based Christian rock band, is a headlining act at the upcoming "Kingdom Bound" festival at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort this August. The band's sound is often compared to the mainstream sounds of U2, Counting Crows and Blink-182.
Nathan Salter (
www.nathansalter.com and
www.salterschristianmusic.com) presently serves as the Minister of Music at the Greater Refuge Temple Church in Buffalo. He also is the Music Director for the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Apostolic Faith's (C.O.O.L.J.C.'s) WNY & Canada Diocese and the Region 2 Jurisdiction, and is the Music Director for the Joshua Revolution Conference. His high-energy, soulful music and lyrics are reminiscent of God's Property from Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation (think: 1997 mainstream hit "Stomp.") Nathan Salter recently performed in Nigeria at last October's Global Gospel Expansion Miracle Crusade.
Bang Theory (
www.bangtheory.biz) features rap artists with music that sounds much in the line of mainstream stars Kanye West and Dr. Dre, but with a Christian messages. Last year, Bang Theory artist Todd Bangz released a solo album titled, "Think It's a Game..."
Relevant Worship begins the music at 9 a.m., after Mark Cahill finishes speaking. The band also will team up with Nathan Salter on a few tracks.
