Heroes

Heroes: I think everyone should have a hero! A hero is often considered the embodiment of what is good and noble evidenced by the willingness to sacrifice the self for the greater good. My heroes are Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Sir Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Alice Stokes Paul, National Woman's Party (http://www.alicepaul.org/). Black and white pictures of my heroes adorn my office. They have followed me from Minnesota. They are part of my life. In a time of community upheaval or self-doubt, I believe there are lessons to be learned from heroes as to how one handles oneself with grace and courage.
