Brush Up Buffalo to Paint Lovejoy Neighborhood
Contributed by: Tony Astran on 4/15/2008

Brush Up Buffalo, a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization focused on revitalizing City of Buffalo neighborhoods, announced this morning that it will paint 15 low-income homes in the Lovejoy Neighborhood for Brush Up Buffalo 2008. The annual event will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2008 in the area bounded by William, Greene, North Ogden, and Broadway Streets.

During a kick-off breakfast at the Iron Island Museum, Brush Up Buffalo President Roseann Scibilia announced the call for more than 700 volunteers to sign up for this year's event, as well as the need for $10,000 in additional sponsorship funding to defray the cost of paint, supplies and insurance. Registration and more details are available online at www.brushupbuffalo.org.

Representatives with LPCiminelli, the program manager overseeing reconstruction of the Buffalo Public Schools, attended the breakfast and announced the company will be a key sponsor of Brush Up Buffalo 2008, providing $8,500 and logistical support. Earlier this month, LPCiminelli began reconstruction of Public School #43 Lovejoy Discovery School, located at the center of the Lovejoy neighborhood.

"We are happy to work with LPCiminelli to make Brush Up Buffalo 2008 a success for Lovejoy residents and our volunteers," said Roseann Scibilia, president of Brush Up Buffalo. "This is a natural partnering, as both our organizations are working to revitalize the neighborhood and sustain its viability."

John O'Hare, president of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of Buffalo, NY, Inc., also offered his association's support for Brush Up Buffalo 2008. He and his associates will provide painting expertise and logistical support for the day of the event.

Since its inception in 1996, Brush Up Buffalo volunteers revitalized 11 neighborhoods in the City of Buffalo, painting more than 220 homes. Last year, in approximately five hours, more than 600 volunteers painted 12 homes in Buffalo's West Side along Plymouth Avenue and Hudson Street.
