Niagara Falls Police Dept.& the AARP Shine

On April 21st at the Niagara Beautification Commission annual Beautify Niagara clean up campaign, the city's finest arrived in clean up clothes to help. Supt. John Chella, Officer Nick Ligammari and Officer Lori Alvarez spent the better part of the day on Highland Avenue helping the group pick up trash along the curbs and sidewalks. They also attended the picnic at the Oasis following the clean up.


AARP and BCBC Amazing Volunteers: The power to make it better! Members of the AARP Niagara Falls Area, Chapter #283; the Black Creek Block Club; Boy Scout Troup #841, US Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's office, and NYS Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte came together to "Beautify Niagara."

For the second consecutive year, AARP Niagara Falls Area, Chapter #283 designated "Beautify Niagara" as their project for the AARP 7th Annual National Day of Service--a tradition of caring, born of the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001, to make communities better places to live through volunteer service. AARP Chapter #283 planned their Day of Service 2007 project to include a partnership with the Black Creek Block Club (BCBC), US Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's office, and NYS Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte. More than 35 volunteers came together for the Earth Day event and to clean-sweep a neighborhood park and surrounding area. The target area, Black Creek Village Community Park and Nature Habitat, is located in the revitalized area of Love Canal. Designed and built by the BCBC, the park is perfect for visitors of all ages. Many thanks to the City of Niagara Falls Parks Department Director John Caso and his staff for removing fallen trees and large branches as part of their "Beautify Niagara."

At the end of the day, after collecting 40 bags of trash and a large pile of debris, the team volunteers were so inspired by their successful results that they began making plans for next year. Everyone agrees that this is another fine example of the AARP motto: The power to make it better.
