Four hundred Sabres fans gathered at Omega Sports in the Summit Mall in Niagara Falls on Saturday night to meet Andrew Peters, Daniel Paille and former Sabre Richard Smehlik.
Seven-year-old Ryan Dynko celebrated his birthday at the mall with a Sabres-themed party before the players arrived. He was the first to meet the three players and got autographs and took pictures with them. He and his friends were entertained by a clown, got temporary tattoos, had a coloring contest and played with shaped balloons. "He's been coming to get sports cards since he was three years old," Ryan's grandmother, Nina Tortorice said. "It's nice to see him so excited about something."
After the children from the party met the three Sabres, the line, which stretched outside the store and down the corridor in the mall, was filled with fans of all different ages.
When teenagers Rachel Undercoffer, Tricia Butski, and April Wheaton got to the table to meet the players, they handed both Peters and Paille birthday cards since they both had recently celebrated birthdays. The three got a group photo with Peters and Paille and after the signing Peters allowed them to take more pictures with him and joked that the photos would be put on her MySpace.
Peters, the most outspoken of the three Sabres, offered a running commentary throughout the signing. After the signing he joked that his favorite part was "when that kid kicked me in the shin. He didn't realize he did it. I had my leg extended and he hit me in the shin when I was taking a picture and I did everything I could to not flinch."
