A proposal to share the stories of Niagara Falls

Proposal:

To put into newspapers, on bulletin boards, at senior facilities, Tops, Tribune, Metro and the website for HANCI and Niagara County "Doings" the following:

Did you live in the Echota area? Would you like to write your memories down for children, grandchildren, greats, etc.? Would you like to know the history of Echota, the stories? (Echota is Cherokee and means 'safe.') Share pictures?

Do you have to be a writer? Absolutely not. A good speller? Never. Punctuation? NO. If interested, contact Priscilla Dolling or Peter Ames.

Goals:

To bring together people who lived in different neighborhoods in Niagara County-Niagara Falls when life was simpler, when families stayed together, shared each others' lives from the cradle to the grave. Their writings in the library will assure that the story is told.

Their writings do not have to end with Echota. There is LaSalle, Cuddaback, downtown, North End, all over where people lived and loved - even me, a transplant from Michigan found love downtown, visualized Griffon Manor as luxury apartments, etc. - I've many stories.

As each class ends, start another. No doubt some of the "Echotians" lived other places - seems there was a lot of moving, especially after World War II.

Where - When - Who

If response was enthusiastic - 1,000 or so - I volunteer to have a session...

I have been in many conversations with people who were bornb and raised here and the interest, especially to me, was amazing. Ah, the memories, I heard and I want to know more. There are other knowledgable people who would volunteer, I am sure!
