MAID OF THE MIST SETS LAUNCH DATE FOR 2008 SEASON
Contributed by: Latrese Burruss on 5/1/2008

With the last of the snow melted, the Maid of the Mist is now ready to launch its 2008 season. On Friday, May 2, 2008, a bit earlier than the start of last season, both the Canadian and American landings will welcome the first of more than two million visitors expected to board Maid of the Mist tour boats this year.

Visitors may board the Maid of the Mist at either landing beginning at 10 a.m. daily. Tours depart every 15 minutes, and lasts approximately 30 minutes.

"The number one message we want people to hear is that visitors do not need a passport to cross into Canada," said Christopher Glynn, President, Maid of the Mist. "With travelers concerned over the high cost of gas, many are sticking closer to home. A quick trip over the border maximizes a short vacation and we don't want visitors to avoid that option because they're worried about needing a passport."

According to Glynn, the organization is hoping for a strong year with many more local and regional visitors enjoying attractions and entertainment in their own backyard. The Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership recently conducted a promising study that indicated the number of Canadians planning on traveling to Niagara Falls, Ontario this spring will be at its highest level since 2004.

"Visiting the Binational Region has a lot to offer - beginning with the Maid of the Mist," added Glynn. "Launching our boats signals the start of the tourism season. We hope the warmer temperatures will lure people to enjoy a one-of-a-kind, up close view of one of the natural wonders of the world."

About Maid of the Mist
The first Maid of the Mist, a wooden-hulled, coal-fired steamboat, launched in 1846. Today, there are four all-steel diesel powered Maid of the Mist boats. Throughout the decades, presidents, kings, movie stars and countless other visitors have taken the world famous Maid of the Mist cruise of Niagara Falls. It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in North America. For more information, please visit the Maid of the Mist Web site at www.maidofthemist.com.
