Art has never been so frothy...
Contributed by: Jason M Snug on 3/8/2008

For most people, an art exhibit brings forth mental pictures of the Albright Knox: a large institutional building filled with oil paintings, sculptures of nude Greeks, and some would even say indecipherable abstract paintings that sort of look like cows playing shuffleboard. The average person probably would not think of barbeque, or whether to pick the cream ale over the wheat lager, but this is not an average art exhibit.

"The Art of Beer" kicked off promptly at 6 pm on Friday at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, with thirsty patrons ready to critique one of Buffalo's most loved form of art: beer! Breweries and restaurants from all over the Greater Buffalo Area and the northeastern U.S. came with plenty of cold ones and comfort food to stir up weekend partiers and connoisseurs alike, all for Queen City foodies and good publicity. Gina Cali-Misterkiewicz, director of development for the NACC, explained why they endured one of Buffalo's trademark snow squalls to host this event:

"It's our premier fundraiser that we have on our schedule right now, and what it really does is bring together the community, the local restaurants that support us, as well as all the local breweries in the area, and distributing companies for the breweries."

The array of beers being dispensed at the fundraiser was as varied as the people who came to sample them. Some of Buffalo's top brewers turned out to tap their kegs: Flying Bison Brewery with their dark Blackbird Oatmeal Stout, Magic Hat's No. 9 and Circus Boy, Sam Adams' Cherry Wheat ale and Twisted Tea, to name a few. Food from local restaurants such as Pizza Plant, Eddie Jay's, and DiCamillo's Bakery was snatched up by the truckload as the night progressed.

The ticket count from this year's event revealed how much fame had spread since its inception last year: Ms. Cali-Misterkiewicz revealed that before the night was over, attendance had more than doubled the turnout from the previous year, and at 22 bucks per ticket, some would say the NACC should be well-funded for the coming year, especially since they have many more fundraising events planned throughout the rest of the year.
