BPO Concert to be First at College's New Venue

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will give a special Southtowns performance Feb. 8 at Hilbert College, making it the first major concert event in the college's new performance space and the orchestra's first appearance at Hilbert in nearly 30 years.

The 8 p.m. concert will be held in Hilbert's William E. Swan Auditorium, a 452-seat state-of-the-art theater venue.

Maestro JoAnn Falletta will conduct the BPO in a program that will include Haydn's Symphony No. 94 "Surprise," Corelli's Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8 and Lowell Liebermann's Flute Concerto featuring BPO principal flutist Christine Bailey Davis as soloist.

"When Swan Auditorium first opened last fall, Hilbert's goal was to expand cultural offerings in the Southtowns and to bring a variety of exceptional events to the area," said Hilbert President Cynthia Zane, Ed.D. "There's no better way to begin the college's cultural programming than with Joann Falletta conducting the BPO, one of Buffalo's golden jewels."

Falletta added, "We are thrilled to be performing at Hilbert College as we are keenly interested in reaching new audiences throughout the region. I look forward to making our debut at this new auditorium in a program well-suited for this beautiful venue."

Tickets are available for $20 through the BPO Box Office at 885-5000 or online at www.bpo.org. Hilbert student tickets are $5 and may be purchased on campus through Jason Enser, director of student activities, at 926-8932 or e-mail jenser@hilbert.edu.
