Not Too Early to Order Valentine's Flowers
Contributed by: Roxane Albond-Buchner on 1/15/2007

The Niagara Floral Center and Greenhouse at Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara is holding a Valentine's Day Floral Sale through January 30 featuring fresh flowers and planters created by people with developmental disabilities who participate in the agency's horticulture therapy program.

Through the Niagara Floral Center & Greenhouse, individuals with developmental disabilities participate in horticulture therapy and training in a professional florist and greenhouse setting. Working with plants promotes dexterity, enhances motor skills and develops socialization. All purchases support this unique program.

A "Bundle of Love" features assorted fresh flowers in a basket and is available for $25. Wrapped mixed cut flowers trimmed with Valentine's colors are $12, a dozen boxed red and white carnations are $15 and a "Lasting Beauty" planter featuring greens, Valentine trim and fresh flowers is $20. Delivery is available for orders of 20 or more to one location.

All orders are due Friday, January 26 and may be placed in person at the Niagara Floral Center & Greenhouse located at 2510 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Wheatfield from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by phone at 504-2617 ext. 244. Pick-up locations are at the greenhouse from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13 and Wednesday, February 14 or at the agency's 107 Heath Street site, Lockport from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14. To download an order form, visit www.opportunitiesunlimited.org.

Businesses are invited to host cart-sales any time during the year and/or to participate in our pre-order programs for holidays. Individuals with disabilities assist with the sales, which provide socialization and integration with the community.

For more than 50 years, Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara, a United Way agency, has been providing individuals of all ages with intellectual or developmental disabilities the skills necessary to achieve independence in their daily lives and enjoy community-based recreation, residential, employment and volunteer opportunities.
