Fantasy Football Lessons & Bills Fan Zone

My husband says I'm acting like a man. That's because I can't get football out of my mind and I'm obsessed. There are a few reasons why the pigskin is on my brain.

Last night, I participated in my first fantasy football draft. Actually, it was his draft, but due to other commitments he couldn't take part, so I stepped in, and after hours of dedicated research, lists, and commitment to which player should go where...I had everything laid out on the coffee table in my living room and made the call.

What I learned after the two and a half hour draft: if you're the only female on the call, you are bound to get harassed, so expect it and deal with it. Not just because most men believe that girls don't know football, but also because the sexual innuendos are bound to come out.

For example, I mistakenly picked two quarterbacks with the same bye week...you fantasy players are now asking "What were you thinking?" Dumb move I know. So throughout the rest of the rounds I heard, so

"Deanna do you want to trade your QB?"
or
"How about a threesome?"
"We'll have to get your husband's permission first of course."

Now I'm waiting for someone to get hurt so we can make a good trade and redemption can be mine.

It's also a wise move to pick your wide receivers early on in the draft, because once the later rounds come along, the pickings are going to be slim.

I was able to snag a few quality players in the early rounds...Tom Brady, Maurice Jones-Drew, Plaxico Burress, and Dallas Clark.

Hindsight is 20/20...next year I'm going to pick more wide receivers early on so we aren't thinking about trades so early in the season.

Ahhh....fantasy football. It's going to be one of the components of our new

Chris, yeah, the Brady choice is really hurting us now. My husband played Hasselbeck yesterday, and needless to say we're not doing so well this week :) Thanks for the great comments about the fantasy league and Jarka's Journal too!

Dig on women that can hold their own in a room full of boys. We have two females in our "Mans League" and both of them have performed admirably, with one even reaching the championship fantasy game. This article also goes to show how much trust your husband has in you. I know if I couldn't make a fantasy draft, the last person I'd be sending would be my girlfriend. Cool to see more Bills coverage coming from your site. Also, if anybody is a BIG college football fan, check out Jarka's Journal on this site. His love of college football is bordering on psychotic.

Wow, stepping in for the husband and taking the hits. I bet he gets even harder if he has to call in next time. Great article, but really, Material Girl?
