On Thursday and Friday of last week, many people who tried to call the town were met with busy signals. The problem was a phone line that had been damaged during the route 62 project in the village became infiltrated with water and caused phone services to go down. This affected many businesses and residences in addition to town hall.
However, the service that was of most concern was the town's 911 system. This system, along with the rest of the town's phone services, was lost in the late morning hours of Thursday, August 23rd. Fortunately, the system the town has in place immediately had the 911 calls rerouted to Orchard Park. With the aide of Hamburg dispatchers, calls were answered in Orchard Park until late early Friday evening when service was restored.
This assistance from our neighbor ensured that all emergencies where responded to in a timely manner. Hamburg owes a great deal of thanks to Orchard Park, Supervisor Murphy, Chief McCune and the entire staff of the Orchard Park 911 center. A potential emergency was averted because of them.
Additional thanks go out to Chief Kesner, Emergency Coordinators Partridge and Zawierucha, Senior Dispatcher Mueller and his staff, and Verizion for its prompt response to the outage.
Lastly, I want to thank the residents of the town for their patience and understanding during the outage and the inconvenience it caused.
