Mission Designates February:Feed the Hungry Month

The Buffalo City Mission designated "February: Feed the Hungry Month." During February, shelters typically get a dramatic influx of people seeking protection from the bitter cold. As part of the month-long program the Mission is launching a campaign to make up for the fundraising shortfall over the holidays. The Mission is asking the community to underwrite the cost of providing 13,000 meals to the city's poor and homeless.

Here is how it works. A contribution of $1.98 provides one meal to one person; $19.80 provides 10 meals; $39.60 provides 20 meals; and $198.00 provides 100 meals.

"Hope begins with a meal. This campaign is special to the Mission because we're sending the community a message that for less than $2 you can provide much more than nourishment to one person," said Aubrey Calhoun, director of community relations, Buffalo City Mission. "We encourage everyone to give at any level, every little bit counts."

To give to the "Feed the Hungry" fundraiser or monitor the Mission's campaign progress, please visit, www.buffalocitymssion.org. The site also allows contributors to challenge a friend, coworker, or family member to help the Mission reach its goal.

The Buffalo City Mission, founded in 1917, is a not-for-profit organization that provides preventative, emergency and long-term recovery services to thousands of people who are homeless or impoverished. The Mission includes: Women and Children's Shelter (Cornerstone Manor); the Men's Center; the Mission Motors Vehicle Donation Program; and two thrift store locations to better serve our community.
