Kenmore resident Gary L. Wolfe's art exhibition, "an interactive commentary on IS53" (Isaiah 53) is currently on display at BT Roberts Memorial Hall Art Gallery, through May 19.

"At the heart of my work I see a process of synthesis," says Wolfe. "The very root of this word signifies a 'putting or placing of things together.' Elements, seen and unseen, illusionary and 'real' meet in the midst of the artistic activity. Color, form, composition, and dimension are called upon to cater a wedding of images and ideas, physics and metaphysics, inner angst and brushstroke, spiritual and material. Even so, my works embody fragmentation in hope of wholeness, words seeking their place in an ongoing narrative. It is the human being, the person that is my primary subject. By focusing upon individual humanity as it embraces the fable and fact of living, as it senses and shapes reality, as it exists in relationship, I seek to explore that greater synthesis of life with life with Life. In each work a dialogue is initiated between the artist, medium and ground. And while I enter the conversation with ideas and presuppositions, the materials and art making process continually challenge my perspective with alternative notions calling for consideration. In the end, the resulting work embodies this discourse. All that has gone into producing the work frames the context and then invites the viewer into the conversation. While primarily a painter, I combine painting, drawing, assemblage and collage to create two and three dimensional artifacts that manifest the interplay between the actual and the illusionary."
