Join the Folk Arts Program of the Castellani Art Museum and members of Western New York's Polish-American communities Sunday November 16, 2008 2:00-4:00pm for an educational exploration of Polish-American Christmas crèche traditions. Participants in this demonstration/workshop will have an opportunity to:
Learn the family stories behind Father Czeslaw M. Krysa's beautiful Polish-American Christmas Crèche display and find our where in the world the Christmas star and other items came from.
Experience a traditional Christmas Wafer Sharing (
oplatek) courtesy of Christmas Wafers Bakery.
Join a Polish Christmas Carol
Koledy sing-a-long led by Holy Trinity
Chórek Ensemble featuring Star Lantern & Caroling traditions.
Bring along some scrap wood, popsicle sticks, or newspapers and cardboard to make a barn, like Father Krysa's
(photo attached) or one found near your home, or a grotto for your nativity figures!
This event is held in conjunction with the exhibition "Devotional Displays: Personal and Community Traditions" on view through December 23, 2008. Admission is free for members of the Castellani Art Museum and Niagara University students, all others $3.00. Light refreshments will provide visitors with a taste of Polish-American Christmas treats.
