Rocking Out at Crue Fest
Contributed by: Deanna Russo YourHub Manager   on 7/11/2008

OK, so you know that I'm the YourHub manager, you know that I run a non-profit organization called Crusade Against Impaired Driving, Inc., but did you know that I have an eclectic musical interest?

By that I mean I like a wide variety of music - ranging from hip hop to R&B to classic rock...and yes throw in some "glam metal" in there too.

That being said, my best friend and I went to the Crue Fest show on Wednesday night at Six Flags Darien Lake. It was a great show - worth the drive and well worth the price of a ticket.

Not only did Motley Crue show fans that they still can rock after all these years (OK, it hasn't been that long, but the group has been around since 1981), those in the audience also enjoyed listening to great bands like Papa Roach and Buckcherry.

We got to the show late, so we missed Trapt and heard parts of Sixx AM, but we did get to see Papa Roach and Buckcherry. Both bands gave the audience what they wanted - they rocked.

Though we did enjoy those bands, my friend and I really came to see the headliner...Crue opened with "Kickstart My Heart", and followed it up with a lot of great hits like "Wild Side". I was concerned that the group would concentrate too much on their new stuff and they did play "Saints of Los Angeles" from their new album, but I'm happy to say they concentrated on the "oldies but goodies" like "Girls Girls Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood".

There were a few times during the Crue's set that they "flubbed up" the lyrics, but my friend and I agree - the group is getting old, and these things happen. They still have the heart and soul that they performed with decades ago.

One of the amusing parts of the show was Tommy Lee's video show, where he encouraged all the young women of the audience to flash the camera...and my friend (not me) was one of them :) She didn't get on the big screen, but she did flaunt her stuff for some happy men in the crowd.

We had a great time at the show, and my profession is not a music reviewer, so I won't get into the details of the performances in this blog.I do have a hard rock side though and I enjoyed the show very much.

A special thank you to Buffalo.com/Spotted photographer Tom Kuenzi and YourHub Citizen Correspondent Dave Jarka for thegreat pictures.

Rock on!

Deanna
