Blog Entry 39 of 129 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Stay Tuned...

Forecast: Sunny with a chance of DEATH Clouds!!
Contributed by: John Kindelan   on 8/14/2007

What was going on in the sky yesterday?! I had to make a quick trip up to the Sam's Club plaza on Union Rd and pick up a filter for our fish tank and I get out of the car and BAM! Giant DEATH CLOUD!

It looked like it was literally crawling across the sky, as though it was some giant worm cloud moving towards devouring the planet. It also made me think of the scene in Independence Day where the alien ships enter the atmosphere and and the clouds billow in the air.

I started snapping some pictures with my cel phone trying to capture the ginormous spectacle in the sky. The "head" of the cloud that seemed to be heading towards Buffalo had a very cool pink hue on it due to the sunset which just made it look more ominous. (Thats the only word I could think of last night to describe the cloud, then I wondered, this cloud is so Big, and so Scary and so Ominous I shall call the cloud Ominous Prime!).

So while my cel phone couldnt capture the whole cloud I rushed home down George Urban Blvd moving along Ominous Prime's body, his tail end seemed to be somewhere in Lancaster. I hopped out of the van and ran in the house to get the camera and told the kids i was heading to the roof to snap some pictures.

Kipper had to go and make a comment that she thought I never wanted to be on the roof again after our roofing experience. On the contrary, now that the roofs done and it looks good I'd sleep up there if I could. So up to the roof to snap some pictures.

The camera we have allows you to snap a picture and then attach another picture to it so you can build a really long picture, which you'll see I did. The lighting is a little different from shot to shot so you do see a line of sorts in the picture, but I was pretty much able to get the whole thing. It didn't look nearly as scary from the side as it did when you were directly under it.

I guess if you go to www.wgrz.com Andy Parker explains what caused the cloud. Okay wait NO FAIR I just went to the wgrz site to confirm the link is still there about the cloud, and it is, along with A LOT of great pictures of it, the best ones being from Lancaster, it was directly over Lancaster apparently. But they also refer to the cloud as OMINOUS! So there you go its official the cloud shall be known as Ominous Prime!

That cloud was CRAZY! My neighbor and I sat outside just watching it for about a 1/2 hour. Incredible!
