Blog Entry 86 of 109 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Fanboys&TrueBelievers #17 Fanboy Drawing Supplies
Contributed by: John Kindelan   on 5/22/2008

So you see me using the term 'fanboy', it some what of a derogatory term to describe those of us who enjoy reading comics, especially superhero genre comics.

This week I had to go purchase a new smaller sketch pad, sure I have 2 other large ones, but I need the small one for the work I'm doing right now. So I head over to Michaels on Walden Ave.(my favorite place to buy sketch pads) and hit the isle to get my usual Canson sketch pad with perferated edges for easy pull out.

But as I'm leaving I notice a Clearance section of drawing pads, and whats the name on the pads? Fanboy. With the slogan underneath the brand name, "Get Out of The Basement". Implying all fanboys live in their parents basement.

Side note, my bedroom was in my parents basement, and it was the coolest bedroom EVER!

So Fanboy art pads are actually made by Canson and they feature a nice logo of an overweight guy with bad teeth, glasses, bad skin and a baseball hate. Hey lets insult our customers as we sell them a product. Maybe McDonalds should try that, they can make Ronald really overweight with bad cholesterol. See how many burgers they sell.

Despite the insulting logo and slogan, I bought 3 of their items. Two new sketch pads and a Create your own Managa book. The sketch pads had really nice paper in them, good quality stuff. They also came with some tracing sheets and stencils for borders and such. My daughter Sydney almost had a heart attack when she saw the tracing paper. Tracing is not allowed in our house.

They had several other cool products as well, like comic book boards in a pad, cover sheets, and more build your own comic items. I'm hoping somebody heads over to Michaels to do some Father's Day shopping before everything is gone, since its on Clearance.

I threw up some images of the pads, and a couple of my sketches I've been working on lately, when I've had the time. All of my work right now is going towards my web site www.swordofthewitness.com I'm trying to put together several pages so I can have a print product of it as well.

Go check out www.swordofthewitness.com but do not go and purchase all of the pads at Michaels! Please leave some there so I can get a couple of cool Fathers Day gifts! You can also order them at www.artsuppliesonline.com and www.enasco.com.
