Blog Entry 80 of 121 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Stay Tuned...

Fanboys and True Believers #15 Its my turn!
Contributed by: John Kindelan   on 4/3/2008

If you've read any of these blogs or now me you might think I've been a comic book geek forever. Truth is not always. I'm not saying when I was a kid I didn't like superheroes, actually I loved them, but it was Superfriends and Spiderman and His Amazing Friends I was hooked on.

So while I grew up as a child dressing up in towels and writing an S on my shirt, it wasn't until my senior year of High School I actually seriously started collecting comics. Prior to that the only time I would get a comic is when I stayed home sick from school and my Dad brought me one home from time to time. I still have that issue of Justice League of America and Green Lantern he bought me.

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My grandpa Russillo got me started, he was a great artist. He taught me about drawing and shading and would have me copy pictures out of the little TV Guides he would get at his house to have me practice. He had me hooked and I loved him so much I just always practiced and practiced. So while some will same I'm talented, I say I just have been practicing for so long, I grew the talent. He did however hold over me forever what I called my Batman curse. When I was a kid he drew me this great drawing of Batman that he copied from a coloring book I had. I had it framed and put in my room. For the longest time I couldn't draw Batman. I didn't think it would like right, or the ears would be wrong, or just something. Until finally one day it just went away, the Batman curse was lifted for some reason and I was able to sketch the dark knight.

So now "It's my turn!"I have written several comic book stories, one is called Between Here and There, another was called The Immortals, bothsit here in my home, both have artwork connected to them but I've never really shared either with anyone. Then a couple of years ago I came up with another story, all based on a mask I bought at The Allentown Art Festival. The story was originally called Daddy Demon Killer.

Daddy Demon Killer, which has now evolved to Sword of the Witness is a story of a man who finds out he ischosen byGod to fight in the war of Good vs. Evil and has to send a legion of Demons back to Hell. He has to balance being a Husband, being a Dad and having a destiny, and its not easy. So Sword of the Witness is out there for you to see.

Go to www.swordofthewitness.com check it out, let me know what you think. Its written in a different style than a comic book, its actually a fictional blog. Its the blog of the main character Danel. I figure I'm pretty good at writing a blog so why not try this new and exciting format of bringing a comic book to life.

Its my turn. Here's my shot. And check out the story I'm going to post here on the upcoming comic book convention this Saturday at the Marriott in Amherst. I'll be there promoting the book and if your a fan of Your Hub stop on by and say hi, I'll be handing out some Your Hub stuff as well in case you want to start your own Blog!
