Blog Entry 74 of 117 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Stay Tuned...

Fanboys and True Believers #13 Fanboy TV
Contributed by: John Kindelan   on 2/26/2008

The amount of Fanboy/True Believers TV shows out there today is fantastic for nerds like me. There's not one major netowork out there that is ignoring the power of the comic book fan, and bringing more and more of those not familiar with the cultural into the fold.

I spoke previously of Lost on channel 7, ABC, while not that comic book related, it does delve into fantasy, mysterious smoke killing people on the island, time travel, and healing abilities. It is also written by professional comic book writers and contains the occasional comic book refrence.

Aside from Lost ABC doesn't have that many more fanboy shows, while SuperNanny may sound like one, its not.

On channel 4, or CBS you will find Ghost Whisperer where Jennifer Love Hewitt has the power to comunicate witht he dead..ooooooo. You also have Big Bang Theroy a sitcom revolving around 2 geeks and the girl next door. Constant comic book refrences, t-shirts and of course the Halloween episode where they all accidently dressed up as the Flash.
Also on CBS you have Jericho. The story of a small town that is surviving after a nuclear holocaust. The sci-fi drama field is strong on CBS.

On NBC you have the obvious Heroes, created by comic book fans, written by comic book writers, and constant comic book art as well. The book 9th Wonders is a key part of the show that is about the entire cast having super powers and saving the world. It doesnt get much more fan boy than that.
Then we have Chuck, the story of a geek that works for the nerd herd at a mock Best Buy and his head is filled with government secrets. You know because that happens every day.
Bionic Woman - though i hear its being canceled, i guess her battery died.
And the return of Knight Rider - talking car and cool guy in leather jacket, yep that's ours too.

Fox - Check out Terminator, The Sarah Connor chronicles for you fix of fighting killer cyborgs and robots(yes there is a difference). 24 starring the terrorist killing hero Jack Bauer. Family Guy - not only because its animated but also because of the constant comic book references, like the time Peter was Superman's roomate. And of course The Simpsons, they dont talk about actual comic books, but their Comic Book Guy "worst blog ever" and characters like Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy they are chock full of nerdy goodness.

So if your favorite comic book isnt out or you want to watch some cool TV and still be able to talk to that nerd at work check out any of these shows, odds are he or she is watching them.
