Blog Entry 49 of 109 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Stay Tuned...

Fanboys and True Believers 3

Well it was another small week for me in comic world, I really think I have to expand my "titles" to start reading some more books. This week we had X-Men #204, The Flash #233, Batman/Superman #41, Teen Titans #52 and Dyllan's book that he likes to get 30 Days of Night Red Snow.

I haven't had the time to read all of them yet, but I always say I will go after certain books the very first day I get them to read them right away. It depends on the story going on, or maybe the cover or maybe if they're starting a new story. This week I've read three off the bat, X-Men was first, then The Flash, then Superman/Batman.

X-Men I decided to grab and read first mainly because of the cover. They have been having an ongoing story going on called Endagered Species, this was chapters 16&17. The cover jumped out because it had Gambit and Rogue holding onto each other. For those who aren't familiar with the X-Men outside of the movies. Rogue is Anna Paquin's character, in comics world she's not nearly as young as they make her in the movie. Gambit has not been introduced in person on screen. True comic geeks like myself however know his realy name Remy Lebeau appeared on a computer screen in X-Men 2. Wow I feel like a dork. So anyway, Gambit might actually end up in the next X-Men film, if they do one, and the rumor is he's going to be being played by Josh Holloway, aka Sawyer from Lost.

So this issue was pretty good, it gave you some insight to the whats been going on in the story. Let me try and some it up, if thats ever possible with an X-Men story. Endangered Species is about how the X-Men are dealing with the fact that no more mutants are being born. They are the last of their kind. Hence Endangered Species. This is the result of another mutant with reality altering powers The Scarlet Witch, daughter of Magneto, said the words, "No More Mutants." and for some reason, some survived the process and others lost their powers, but none have been born so far. Now the X-Men, are fighting Mr. Sinister and The Marauders for the control of some Diaries thatpredict the future. It sounds complicated. Thats because it is. X-Men books are really not for little kids, they are about the struggle of racism, being different, relationships, the pressures of leadership and the fear of defeat and letting down your family. See, comics are not little funny books for kids.

So anyyywayy, the cover jumped out at me because Rogue actually bares a suprisingly resemblence to my wife. Aside from the big white strip of hair. So our little inside joke has always been she's Rogue and I'm Gambit....awwwww how cute and sickening, can't believe i revealed that. But I challenge any comic geek out there who's actually been able to kiss a girl to admit they too have their own pet comic book names for their girls and their girls have names for them as well. If a comic geek can get a girl who can not only put up with the oddness of us True Believers(or fan boys(but fan boys dont usually get girls. FACE!)) your even luckier if you can get your woman to read the books. My wife just spent the other day reading all of the Justice stories by Alex Ross, gets me all funny inside.

I'm typing a lot here, and I dont want this to be a novel on my comics for the week so let me try and do a quick wrap up. X-Men was good, good love story, interesting back story with the rest of the x-men planning and plotting back at the house. Flash was good, with a appearance by The Justice League to find out why the Flash is letting his young kids gear up in super hero costumes and fight crime. Yes people, a super hero with kids, and his kids are super heroes. Sounds stupid, but when you read the book, especially this issue it makes sense why Wally(The Flash) and Linda, his wife, are letting the kids dress up and fight bad guys with dad.

Batman/Superman # 41 is a continuation of a story thats been going on with Darkseid and Desaad attacking the Man of Steel and Batman is trying to save him. This don't look good for Superman, but I'm sure he'll pull it together in the end, I mean come on he's Superman.

Once again it was a fun week picking up books at Don's Atomic Comics on Transit Rd. in Depew. Talking comics, art and where not to put a lead statue of Black Cat in your body.

Till Next Time True Believes, I'm hitting the "Buffalo Comic Con" this Sunday at the Sheridan. Keep an on on the Your Hub stories to see more information on that. So in the immortal words of Stan The Man Lee....'Nuff Said!
