Blog Entry 22 of 114 Somewhere Between Here and There
What runs through the mind of a 30 something married man with 5 kids a good job a huge comic book collection, an impressive DVD collection, nearly every movie stub from every movie he's seen since Back to the Future; topped off with a mind filled with endless movie quotes, dabbling in theology, a continuous pursuit of being a professional artist while taking a stab at being a writer? Stay Tuned...

When does a hobby go to far?
Contributed by: John Kindelan   on 6/12/2007

So you've read the blogs and stories about the Collectibles Show, seen my collection of autographed comics, DVDs and maybe tonight I'll put up one about the action figures in our house. But when does a hobby go to far?

I started with comics, just enjoying them, then they inspired me to draw more, write more, tell my own stories with the style of Sequential Art. Slowly having to buy actual boxes to hold my books that were becoming a "collection". Then I went another step, buying bags and boards to properly store the books in the boxes. And then moving on to having to have an entire room in the house dedicated to the books and keeping them safe. Making sure they dont get moist, making sure they're not on the floor incase there is some sort of flood.

Then I went to a small convention here in Buffalo. Nothing fancy, pretty much just like our collectibles show but all comics. I was hooked. Then I had to go to one in Pittsburgh......that was a good show. And then of course now we have our annual trip to Toronto for the big Hobbystar show.

I thought travelling to another country to see the comics, be with fellow comic junkies would quench my thirst, but here I am, now putting together my own collectibles shows. Bringing in vendors constantly thinking on what to add, how to improve what to do different. But where does it stop. Do we make the show so big we have to move to a new location? Will it become known cross country like the Toronto show? Celebrity guests? Panel discussions? Whats next?

When did my love for the Super Friends and thinking that Spider-Man and his Amazing friends were the coolest turn into a part of my professional career and where will this webline take me?

Stay tuned true believers, I think all were seeing now is the Origin and the best is yet to come, so as one of my true hero and mentors says...

Excellsior!
