Weed or Wildflower?

To celebrate the first day of summer, we held a Summer Wildflower Walk at Reinstein Woods. Participants examined about 30 different species, and learned tips for identifying wildflowers, as well as some folklore and medicinal uses of the plants.

Many of these plants grow in your yard, but you might think of them as a weed. "Weed" ia a subjective term, and just means a plant that is growing where you don't want it. Many of these "weeds" are actually beneficial for birds, butterflies, and bees!

On your next visit to Reinstein Woods, take a walk around the Lily Pond and look for some of these colorful wildflowers.
