Last week, we received a call from the Wildlife Department at the SPCA serving Erie County, looking for a safe location to release a coyote that had been hit by a car in Cheektowaga, not far from Reinstein Woods. It had been rehabilitatedand was ready to return to the wild. However, this was an unusual colored coyote-it had blonde fur! Several Reinstein Woods' volunteers had spotted a coyote with similar color in the last few years, so we think that our four-legged friend was returning home. On October 12, SPCA staff and volunteers, the person who had hit the coyote, and Reinstein Woods staff witnessed the release. "Gold E." ran quickly out the crate, then slowly trotted down the road and stopped several times to look back at us. The coyote's fur was a beautiful golden-blonde color, as you can see from the photos. It was a memorable event!
