SPCA ADORABLE ANIMALS: Inside the Infirmary

The SPCA Serving Erie County's Web site, http://YourSPCA.org, offers a regularly-updated "blog," the INSIDE THE INFIRMARY Diary, detailing the activities of the on-site animal infirmary at the SPCA's Tonawanda, NY shelter. Here's a sneak peek at Monday, May 21's entry:

Monday, May 21
Did you see those intake numbers for Wed., Thur., and Fri. of last week (38 dogs, 64 cats, 2 parakeets, 2 Guinea pigs, 1 hamster)? We're almost afraid to think about what this week will bring.

You'll see a photo here of a black kitten that was attacked by a dog. We've named him Sawyer, and he's extremely friendly & affectionate, healing wonderfully, & going into a foster home soon.

We're still working with three animal cruelty victims. India is our latest sweetheart, a 3-yr-old pit bull mix. Her left leg was dislocated and she needs surgery; charges against her owner are pending, and we're anxious to get the full story of how this happened...that is, IF we ever learn the real truth.

May 5 introduced us toanother cruelty victim, a young dog that was thrown against a wall by his owner. He received his surgery and is recuperating; the case against his owner is currently in court.

Missy, the pit bull shot in the eye with two BBs by her owner ( Godwin Ayide, of Lake Heights Drive in Hamburg), is our third animal cruelty victim - she's healing nicely after that eye was amputated and best of all, her owner was in Hamburg Town Court Friday on felony cruelty charges. They're thinking of sending the case to the Grand Jury.More details are athttp://www.yourspca.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=6049.

And listen to this bit of good news - last week we put up for adoption an 8-yr-old yellow shepherd/husky mix, three legs, impaired vision, and a slightly deformed jaw -- a stray nobody claimed that we dubbed Buttercup (photo attached). You guessed it - she was adopted! And we're still taking calls from folks who learned about poor Buttercup, wondering whether she's still here! After a week filled with cruelty cases, Buttercup's adoption was a great way to welcome the weekend.
