Yes, You Can Help * Can We Lean On You?
Contributed by: Bob Kuebler YWAP on 10/29/2007

ThisStory is brought to you by YWAP - Youth With A Purpose

We all need somebody to lean on.
Do you remember the old school song "Lean On Me?"
If Mr. Rogers from "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" was here he'd probably say "Lean on me, can you say that?"
We are going to paste the lyrics right here for you.
Go ahead, sing it, out loud so that every youth in Buffalo knows you care!

Title: Bill Withers - Lean On Me lyrics
Artist: Bill Withers

Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Lean on me...

If Mr. Rogers was listening, he'd probably say "I like the way you sing that!"

YWAP needs somebody to lean on, will that somebody be you?
Many friends have asked "How may I help you?"

Below is a list of ways that you can help YWAP.
It is a list of the different ways that you can plant an "Opportunitree."
(An Opportunitree is an opportunity to help a youth grow.)

1. Copies of "The Message" or "The Book"
2.Exercise bikes, rowers etc.
3. Books & book shelves.
4. Basketballs, needles for inflating balls, basketball nets.
5. Teach an entrepreneurial course.
6. Teach young ladies about self esteem. make-up and self respect.
7. Camping equipment:. tents, sleeping bags, coolers, fishing poles, bug nets, gloves, etc.
8. A larger van, our van is a 1997 3/4 ton, 8 passenger Dodge with 212,000 miles.
9. Scholarships for trips including Joshua Revolution, KingdomBound, a mountain climbing trip, a camping trip, a high school scholarship,
10. A job for a youth.
11. Schedule our YWAP Conflict Resolution Team to come to your school, church or community center.
12, Food - youth are always hungry.
13. A video camera.
14. Art supplies.
15. Any musical instruments. (You would be amazed at the talent that that youth find that they have just by picking up an instrument and trying it.) We will be picking up a piano soon 2-20-08.
16. Advertise in our NBA Booklet that is given to thousands of young people each year.
17. Ask our youth to be on your tv or radio show.
18. Presentation equipment, ie: a laptop, microphones (cordless, lapel & standard) large speakers, transformer, ipod or mp3, large screen, projector.
19. A van with a stage for street presentations.
20. Sponsor a staff member.
21. Suggestions - Any wisdom that will benefit a young person is acceptable.
22. Christmas gifts (We distribute to the neighborhood. No guns please!)
23. Any school supplies, we are always in need.
24. Gift cards. We use these as rewards and incentives. (Last week we witnessed a teenage boy help an elderly lady cross 7th Street. To "catch" a youth in an act of service and reward them is a powerful affirmation!)
25. Volunteer or sponsor a recording studio.
26. Will you help us build an airplane? We have a plan, call and ask us about it.

We will update this list as needed so please check back often,
"so we can lean on you!"

Our long term goal is to start a 24-7-365 positive radio station for young people in Buffalo, New York that will reach the world.
