Are You A Youth Potentiator?



Last week Roxy, Stephanie and I stood on a stage in La Salle Park. I told the audience that they were about to witness history as I believe that Roxy and Stephanie can impact several generations. Before the two young ladies began their historical social commentary through music, we talked about 4 people in history - JFK, MLK, Mr. Rogers and a guy called Rabboni.

JFK said: "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country."

MLK said: "I have a dream!"

Mr. Rogers said: "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood."

The Rabboni guy said: "Go love your neighbor."

If you combine them it might sound something like this:

"Ask not what your dream can do for you but how your dream can show love for your neighbor and you will have a beautiful day in the neighborhood!"

All four of those historical figures were potentiators of youth. Yes, it is true that the concepts that these historical figures believed in are beneficial to all generations. We push the idea of being a youth potentiatior because we are all student/teachers.At any one time, we are all either a student or a teacher based on our needs and willingness to learn. A two year old can teach a 100 year old about being needed and that it is okay to need someone. There is an old school song that says; "People who need people are the luckiest people in the world."

It is okay to need help.

We all need people to unlock the potential inside us.A Potentiator is someone who seeks to identify the natural strengths and abilities in a neighbor. ( A neighbor is anyone.) After identifying their potential, the Potentiator does something to cause the neighbor to use their potential in a potent action causing a beneficial result. Some examples are: Bert likes basketball, coach him, Suzy likes to sing, get her involved in musicals,Ike likes bikes, help him to start a business making and selling bikes. Etc.

You need to be a student,
to study what your student needs to learn ,
before you can teach what needs to be taught.

Too many adults attempt to live their failed dreams through young people. A Dad may have wanted to be a Police Officer so he urges his son or daughter to follow that path. They would rather be a Rocket Scientist. What Dad should do is study how to be a Rocket Scientist. Adults can follow their own dreams as they urge young people to follow their dreams. An old piece of wisdom says to "Point your kids in the right direction -- when they're old they won't be lost."

We need Youth Potentiators to point youth in the right direction. Will you help a young person to realize their potential and cause a potent action that is beneficial to the neighborhood? Ask not what our youth can do for you but what you can do for our youth. Please call us:
