Celtic Dance Performance to Benefit Roswell Park
Contributed by: Roswell Park Alliance Foundation on 4/16/2008

Get your Kelt on for Celtic Spirit and Dance, Friday April 25, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the Historic Riviera Theater and Performing Arts Center downtown North Tonawanda, an all-ages show celebrating Celtic traditions, benefiting Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Featuring on stage performing in concert is WNY's favorite bagpipe band, Celtic Spirit Pipe Band. The band had the honor of appearing at the 2008 Winter Classic, January 1 at Rich Stadium leading the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins onto the ice. The band also opened for Rod Stewart at HSBC Arena in 2007. Formed in 1999, the band quickly matured into an ensemble that presents a wide range of piping music. Traditional tunes are accompanied by lively sets with instrumentals, add contemporary dimensions to their pipe & drum concerts. With members ranging in age from 14 up, these pipers aren't your grandfather's pipe band. Come hear the high energy sound that is winning fans world-wide.

Joining Celtic Spirit is one of Buffalo's most prolific Irish Dance troupes; Rince na Tiarna maintains a standard of excellence that is only possible through a deep respect for their art form, their achievements and influence have echoed far beyond the boundaries of the local Irish community. Led by Mary Kay Heneghan, Rince Na Tiarna is a leader among Irish dance schools nationwide, consistently producing world champion dancers. Fiona Dargan took first place in her age group at the 2008 All Ireland World Championships in March, following in her sister Kevinah's footsteps, a world champion in 2005. See the high kicking excellence of RInce na Tiarna for yourself.

WGRZ's Maryalice Demler will appear as a special guest with host Bill Raffel of WBFO's Keltic Kaleidoscope. A custom made kilt donated by Sandy St. James with a retail value of $700 will be raffled off that night.

Information can be found at www.celticspiritanddance.info. Tickets for Celtic Spirit and Dance are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/students, available online at www.rivieratheater.org; by phone 716.692.2113; or in person at the Riviera Theater box office, 67 Webster Street, North Tonawanda, Monday through Saturday 10 to 5 PM.
