This past Saturday and Sunday at the WNED studios, hundreds of Western New York families could be found at the second annual WNED Kid Fest. This event combines a fun learning experience with "a hands-on, face-to-face community celebration," and focuses on "literacy and making reading fun" as well as "activities that teach kids about exercising, science, math and more."
This year's Kid Fest featured activities such as a coloring contest, a Chinese raffle, crafts, air brush tattoos, face painting, and balloon animals, not to mention, a $3 lunch!
Kids also got the chance to see themselves on television, as there was a green room with a screen that displayed children who were being filmed.
The "Character Meet and Greet" portion of the Kid Fest was very highly anticipated, with the opportunity to get your picture taken with Clifford, Super Why, Princess Presto, and Maya and Miguel (WNED children's shows characters). However, some participants were disappointed when they learned that Elmo would not be making an appearance this year, as he did last year.
There were also numerous stage presentations throughout the event, designed to promote local companies. For example, Buffalo for Yoga presented "Yoga for Kids," Gymboree provided a "Bubble and Sing Along Time with Gymboree," and Master Chong's World Class Tae Kwon Do did a demonstration as well.
All proceeds from the WNED Kid Fest will benefit WNED-TV, ThinkBright TV, WNED-AM & WNED-FM.
