THEY SHOT MY DADDY'S EAR OFF

THEY SHOT MY DADDY'S EAR OFF
This story is brought to you by YWAP - Youth With A Purpose.

If you are not familiar with the street term brrrrack, it is the noise a person makes with their mouth to sound like a gun. Sometimes a person can paint verbal graffiti with their mouth as they give information about their next target. If you are sitting on your front porch and somebody walks or passes by on a bike or in a car, and they make the sound of brrrrack, you are the next target (you will be shot.) I guess you might call it a

kinder gentler way of blowing somebody away.

But maybe the anxiety created by the warning "you will be shot" is worse than not knowing "when you will be shot."

Why do people shoot each other? Gang wars, drug wars, anger, witness execution, retaliation and so on. But there's another reason and nobody knows what it is because the reason doesn't exist - sometimes they shoot without a reason. The only reason they shoot is because it's something to do, it's a thrill. The shooter doesn't think about the possibility of someone dying. They don't think about a Mom or A Dad losing a child. They don't think about Grandma burying her grandchild.
They don't think about the little boy standing in the funeral parlor next to the casket that holds his Father. He grabs your arm as he leads you to the side of the casket near the wall, urging you to look at where

"They shot my Daddy's ear off."

I recently read a story written by the Pastor of the largest church in the world.Dr. David Yonggi Cho, is senior pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church. His church is located in Seoul, Korea. He wrote about the war in Viet Nam. He said that the members of his church had children who had to go fight in that war. They all got together and prayed that their children would be safe. He wrote that none of their children died.

Prayer can be a powerful precipitator of positive change.

Prrrrack is a prayer driveby.
We have prayed for many shooting victims while they are still laying in the street or being lifted onto a stretcher by ambulance attendants. We now drive the streets of the West Side of Buffalo and pray for those who walk the streets. We pray for those who live in the homes and for those who live in the streets. We pray for those who play in the streets that are sometimes innocent victims of stray bullets. We pray for old people, that they would share their knowledge borne from years of brokenness. We pray that people would learn how to "squash the beef" without violence. We pray that friendships would be forged through forgiveness.

How To Do A Prayer Driveby

If you already have a habit of prayer, we would ask that you remember to pray for the hearts of young people. Pray that their stone hearts would be turned into flesh hearts filled with love for one another.
Just extend your prayer time a little and you will accomplish a lot.

If you do not have a habit of prayer, you have nothing to lose by praying. It is a personal decision. Whether you believe in God or not, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Just simply ask God to please help the young people to stop shooting each other. You don't have to be on the West Side to pray. Prayer reaches across the world. I know that He will listen when people pray. If you want to know that God is real, ask Him to show Himself to you and He will, He answers prayer.
