Back in the Buff
I started college in Chicago last September. And since I've been back in Buffalo, I find that at least half of the people I talk to ask me if I'll be coming back to Buffalo after school. I usually say yes, but the guilty truth is: I'm not sure.

Buffalove or Buffaleave?
Contributed by: Buffalo.com/YourHub Kelsey Swanekamp   on 7/24/2008

A friend of mine from Chicago came to visit about a week ago. He'd been listening to me brag about Buffalo for months (chicken wings, Cole's cheese fries, Delaware Park, city hall), and I was nervous for him to see the real thing. I took him on the grand tour: the Elmwood Village, Allentown, Taste of Buffalo. I asked him every eight seconds what he thought of the city.
And I wondered: what is it I think I owe this city, and why does it matter so much to me that people approve?
I'm not sure if people born in other cities feel the way that young people in Buffalo feel today. I've been told for years that all of the young, bright kids are leaving Buffalo never to return, and that THIS is Buffalo's biggest problem. And I've begun to feel that leaving Buffalo to live elsewhere after college would be my biggest betrayal: of myself, my family, my friends, my teachers, my city.
Should my life be dictated by a city, by the architecture of city hall, by the Olmstead park system?
I love Buffalo, and I don't want to fail it. But I'm not sure if it's fair that I've been raised to attach its future to mine.
