Friends and Family need the communities help!

I need help!! Planning a benefit!!!
Contributed by: Paul DiCanio   on 6/18/2008

This is the first time I have ever "blogged", but I am reaching out to the community for some help/feedback. A very dear friend of mine parents are both very sick. His mother became ill a few years back with doctors never really knowing what was wrong with her. She would slip in and out on consciousness and many times not know where she was. She was diagnosed with Sirosis last year. She has been back and forth between a nursing home and hospital. She now has caught Pneumonia and a blood infection and the outlook is grim. In the meantime, his father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. The doctors now tell him he has 6 months to live, tops. My friend, who is only 26 and is getting married in the fall, is very humble and generous as much of his family is and will be parentless by the time he turns 27. It is my intention to have a benefit party to raise money for his family.. Medicaid and Medicare will only get you so far. My problem is that I don't know where to start. I need help! I have never done anything like this before. My questions are if I want to have corporations help by donating items for a raffle, do I need some kind of certificate from the city or state? (How would the corporations know that I am legit?) If I set a trust fund in their name will it be tax-exempt when they need the money? Please some take the time to respond to me. I need help!

Hi my name Christa. I own Serneity's Treasures a local business. To hold a raffle is alot of work. May I suggest catalog fundraising it takes 1-2 weeks and has a very large profit in the end. I do exactly that. The harder you work to sell the produts the more money made. I do profit 50/50 split on total profit as well. If interested please check out my website www.serenitystreasure.com and then email me at info@serenitystreasure.com to set up a date and time to talk. My sincere regrets to the family as well. I will also provide my time to help with anything you and/or the family may need.
