Wounded Warriors and How to Help Them will be held June 12
A Free Community Presentation at Audubon Library
"Wounded Warriors: Caring for Veterans at the End of Life" will be presented free to the community on Thursday, June 12, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the John James Audubon Parkway in Amherst, NY. The event is hosted by Hospice Buffalo and the VA Healthcare Network and features nationally known speaker, Deborah Grassman, ARNP, Hospice coordinator at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
"Combat soldiers have often seen the worst mankind has to offer," notes Grassman. "It changes them in fundamental ways, inflicting emotional, spiritual, social, and moral injuries that impact them throughout their lifetime, especially as they face death. Some veterans return from war bitter; some return enlightened; all return with lessons the rest of us need to know. This is a presentation you won't want to miss."
The dynamic talk will offer information on the emotional, social, spiritual, and moral injuries sustained by veterans and how to respond to the many issues that sometimes surface as veterans face the end of their lives. More than 1,800 veterans die each day in the U.S. Many of these veterans could benefit from hospice care that provides veterans and their loved ones end-of-life care with comfort, compassion and dignity.
