NEWTOWN EAGLES CRUSH TONAWANDA
Contributed by: Cindy Schilling on 6/2/2008

On Sunday the Braves faced off against a tough Newtown Eagles team at Logan Field. The stands were packed on a cold, damp night and try as they might to get an edge the Braves just could not pull it off.

Newtown opened the scoring for the game with two goals, which were answered by a Kelsey Sundown goal assisted by Rusty Jonathan and Mike Smoke. A Mike Smoke goal followed with only :52 seconds left in the period. He was assisted by Huddy Nanticoke and Goalie, Nek Jonathan. With the score being tied at 2-2 at the end of the first period the fans were certain their team could pick up the pace and take it.

The second period saw Newtown scored twice right away and then Ryan Sundown got one by their goalie and scored for Tonawanda with the help of Rusty Jonathan and Kelsey Sundown. The excitement for that was short-lived though as Newtown would come back and score twice more. Then, the Braves came alive for a bit again when Ryan Sundown popped one in with the help of Levi Winnie and Huddy Nanticoke. However, again...Newtown came back and scored twice more! The fans were getting a bit frustrated, as I am sure the players were as the game was rather contentious. Have you ever heard the saying: "I went to a fight and a lacrosse game broke out?" Well, that might have been said for what took place late in the second period. Mike Smoke and a Newtown opponent and Matt Dean and his opponent matched wits as well as punches. No doubt all were frustrated but game misconducts were handed out to all four player/fighters, which means they were ejected and will all have to miss the next game. With only :19 seconds left in the second period, Huddy scored again for the Braves which brought the score to 9-5. Although they were behind through most of the period, the Braves passing and hitting was textbook. The crowd savored the moment when two Newtown players collided in front of their bench, both going down as it looked like a Three Stooges moment.

Newtown scored twice more in the third period and there was a shining moment for the Braves when HisDee Hallett flew up the middle and slammed in his first goal of the day. Nek Jonathan was credited with that assist.

The next Braves games takes place on Friday, June 6 th at Logan Field when they face the Pinewood Smoke from Cattaraugus. The action begins at 8:00 PM.
