(story written with help of Cheryl Sundown)
The Niagara Hawks opened the game against the Tonawanda Braves with a 2-minute penalty for delay of game. The first goal by Niagara was scored at the 5:57 mark of the first period. First penalty went to the Hawks as well as the 2nd and 3rd penalties of the game. A skirmish broke out behind the net between Casey Jonathan and a Hawks player; won by Casey who managed to "strip" the kid of his jersey, among other things! The result of that fight was Braves - 1 and Hawks - 0 (the Hawks player got tossed from the game as well). Score was 4 (Hawks) to 2 (Tonawanda) at end of the first period. Scoring the first two goals for the Braves was Ryan (the Captain) Sundown and Justin "Huddy" Nanticoke.
The Braves just could not maintain control of the ball or get the ball past the Hawks goalie. End of second, the score was 8 to 3 in favor of Niagara. Scoring the 3rd goal was Kelsey Sundown for the Braves.
Third period was much the same with the Hawks managing to maintain ball control and adding to their score. At end of game, final score was 13 to 4, with the 4th goal for Tonawanda being scored by Matt Dean. Just as a side note, Nate Blueye came out of (one-night) retirement to play again for his hometown Braves and did a pretty good job on defense
The Hawks come to face off against the Braves here at Logan Field on Saturday, May 31st, at 7:00 PM. GO BRAVES!!!
