It was a fun night at Logan Field on Thursday as the the Tonawanda Braves faced off against Buffalo Creek and walked away with an 8-4 win. The scoring started out in favor of the opponents with three goals scored quickly in the opening period of play. Although there were some nice looking passes completed and some great defense played on the part of the Braves, they left the field empty handed at the end of the first.
Some fans wondered what kind of pep talk Coach Rog Hill gave the guys because they came back like a whole different team. At 17:18 into the play, Rusty "Straight From Volleyball" Jonathan, scored shorthanded with the help of Mike Dean. The play went on and later in the second it was Scrub Oak Brooks that popped in the Braves second goal with his whole family up from Cattaraugus to cheer him on. The assists on his goal were credited to Kelsey Sundown and Huddy Nanticoke. A short few minutes later it was Ryan Sundown from TT Hallett and Huddy Nanticoke. This brought the game to a 3-3 tie and just before the end of the period, Mike Smoke would score with the help of Rusty Jonathan and Ryan Sundown. The score was 4-3 in favor of the Braves as they players left the field for the break.
As they came back for the final period, the fans were clearly enjoying the game. Rusty Jonathan started out the scoring once again with an assist from Scott Logan and Kelsey Sundown. Mike Dean followed up with a goal assisted by Luke Jonathan and Ryan Sundown and several minutes later it would be Scott Logan on a Mike Smoke/Matt Dean assist. With 8:44 left to play, Levi Winnie scored the final Braves goal with the help of goalie, Nek Jonathan. As the play continued, Captain Ryan Sundown got off a shot on the Buffalo goalie from a short distance that probably stung for days. The guys played much more like a team with much more accurate passes and controlled shots. Buffalo would score one more time but it was Tonawanda that got the win, which surely pleased all the fans that "braved" the cold to support their team.
