The Tonawanda Braves have begun a new season of lacrosse action. They opened on April 26
th with a sound defeat at Onondaga by a always strong Redhawks team. The Braves played their second game of the season May 1
st at Rochester against the GreyWolves. With a large contingency of local fans in attendance, the games started off slowly. With not much for the fans to cheer about in the first two periods, they didn't look like they even came to play. Henan Scrogg and Art Jonathan showed some nice aggression but seemed to be in it alone. Goalie, Nek Jonathan certainly had his work cut out for him and prevailed as he usually does with some pretty impressive saves. With 4:18 left in the second period, TT Hallett found himself sending in a blistering shot right front and center assisted by Kelsey Sundown and Art Jonathan. It was 5-1 at the end of the second but in the final period of the game, the Braves put on a scoring drive that woke even the loudest snorer in the stands. Ryan Sundown scored on a Mike Smoke and Kelsey Sundown assist. Huddy Nanticoke followed up scoring, with the help of Ryan and Henan Scrogg. The final Braves goal came from a pass to Mike Dean from Mike Smoke and Henan Scrogg. The Greywolves would go on to score three more goals and put the game away once and for all. It was a tough defeat but the Braves definitely looked like they were beginning to gel.
The Tonawanda Braves played their third season game on Sunday against the Buffalo at Riverside Arena. The Braves fans came out in big numbers with the hopes of a victory for their team and they would not be let down. The Braves came out with a vengeance scoring at 18:07. It was Huddy Nanticoke with the help of Kelsey Sundown and Mike Smoke that opened the game with a shot that was well set up and very deliberate.. Not long after at 15:35, Ryan Sundown slapped one it with another Mike Smoke assist and Scrub Brooks as well. Mike Smoke appears to be making his mark on the Braves team early in his career with some extremely impressive play. At 1:49 into the first period TT Hallet scored on a Ryan Sundown assist. The fans were jubilant as this was the Braves team they had come to see play. A misunderstanding broke out into a fight at 9:29 that ended in Rusty and Art Jonathan getting ejected. This didn't slow the Braves down. At 6:59 Mike Smoke scored with the help of Scrub Brooks. Buffalo finally got passed a defiant Nek Jonathan to score late in the first. Mike Smoke would score from TT Hallett one more time before the period's end.
The second period was a bit less eventful. The play was solid but moved a bit slower. It was great to see Scott Logan dressed and playing a sound defensive game. At 14:48 into the second period, Mike Smoke assisted as Kelsey Sundown scored. Less than a minute later Scott Logan score from Ryan Sundown. That period closed with an 8-1 score.
The fans were enjoying themselves and the Braves continued to play like the warriors they are in the third period. At 10:02 into it, Matt Dean, who had been playing well all game got one past the goalie with the help of Morey Ground and Henan Scrogg. Later in the final period, with 4:40 left to play, Zack Brink scored. He was assisted by Matt Dean and Ryan Sundown. Buffalo would score one more time before the ending the game with a 10-2 Braves win.
