It was a big night for the crowd at Orchard Park, as the hometown Quakers celebrated their Senior Day. The festivities started inside the school then spilled out onto the field. The players were introduced to screaming fans, and the band played the national anthem. The senior players brought their parents to the field, and gave their parents a ceremonial rose, to show appreciation for all the hard work that they have contributed to the success of the player. Both teams were excited about this matchup. Orchard Park was looking to keep its perfect record, while Clarence prepared to rebound after losing their first game of the year, in overtime, to Lancaster last week.
The game started with defensive struggles on both sides the Quakers just got passed mid-field before being stopped by Clarence. The Red Devils of Clarence produced only a few plays of offense before giving the ball back to Orchard Park.
The Quakers scored first, when running back Jeff Tundo scored a one yard touchdown run with 2:39 left in the quarter. At the end of the first it was 7-0 Orchard Park. Before halftime Orchard Park would add two more touchdowns, both were passes from Kyle Hoppy to Jake Gurtler. Clarence's Offence showed first life at the end of the half when, Red Devil quarterback; Joshua James led his team down the field. He converted two fourth downs through the air to keep his team alive, but time ran out and both teams went into the locker room with the score 21-0 Quakers.
Clarence had some momentum coming into the half and senior cheerleader Maura Pulli of Clarence still believed in her team. "Were going to pull through and get a victory!" She said before the start of the second half. Clarence started off with the ball to begin the half. They moved the ball well and converted another fourth down, but the Quakers defense held strong and stopped Clarence before they could score. Clarence would finish the night 4 of 8 on fourth down.
The Quakers would score twice more in this half as the conditions started to become a factor for both sides. The rain started to fall and it became chilly even for fans as one by one more people walked to the exits. The pouring rain, and constant presence of bodies stomping into the ground made for a sloppy, muddy field. As Clarence head coach, Tom Goddard said; "the field was a quagmire." The game finally ran out with Clarence trying to march down the field one more time.
The game ended with the Quakers in the led 35-0. Jeff Tundo said; "Scoring against a great team like this makes you feel awesome." He scored twice and his teammate junior quarterback, Kyle Hoppy threw for three touchdowns of his own. On this Orchard Park Senior Day, it seems ironic that the juniors did most of the damage.
