Tuesday's Republican debate was, for the most part, unremarkable, with the exception of
Representative Ron Paul's response to a question from Wendell Goler, asking how 9/11 changed American foreign policy. His response was unbelievable, and more than a little scary.
Paul: "Have you ever read the reasons they attacked us? They attacked us because we've been over there; we've been bombing Iraq for ten years..."
Questioner Wendell Goler: "Are you suggesting we invited the 9/11 attack, sir?"
Paul: "I'm suggesting that we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it. They don't come here to attack us because we're rich and we're free. They come and they attack us because we're over there."
Not willing to let the comment go unchallenged,
Rudy Giuliani quickly cut in: "May I comment on that?" He did not wait for Goler's permission. "That's really an extraordinary statement. That's an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of September 11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq. I don't think I've heard that before, and I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for September 11th."
The audience applauded Giuliani 's remarks, which encouraged Guiliani, who continued "And I would ask the congressman to withdraw that comment and tell us that he didn't really mean that."
Predictably, Representative Paul did not respond, and the Wendell Goler quickly changed the topic.
After the debate had ended, reporters seized on the biggest slap-down of the evening, questioning whether Paul really blamed American for the 9/11 attacks. "Who did that?" Paul snapped. "Who blamed America?"
Reporter: "Well, your critics felt that you did."
Paul: "No, I blamed bad policy over 50 years that leads to anti-Americanism," Paul said. "That's little bit different from saying 'blame America.' Don't put those words in my mouth."
Reporter: "But the policies were bad American policies?"
Paul: "We've had an interventionist foreign policy for 50 years that has come back to haunt us," Paul continued. "So that's not 'Blame America' - that's demagoguing, distorting issues...That's deceitful to say those kinds of things."
I don't know about you, but Ron Paul's outrage at being misunderstood does little to clarify exactly how he can blame American Policy for the 9/11 attacks, but not blame America. Huh? It appears the "Bizarro World " of the the Liberals has infiltrated the republican party. Can this this guy be a plant? Surely his record of vetoing any bill that does not jibe with principles envisioned by the framers of the U.S. Constitution, should speak for itself. But does it? Consider for a moment how clever it would be if he were a liberal "sleeper", lurking among the unsuspecting masses, ready to secret his liberal views in through the White House back door! Well, maybe that's a stretch, but "sleeper" or not, this guy is down-right dangerous!.
Ron Paul was probably the kid in the lunchroom who gave up his lunch to the bully, and then did his homework for him! Is this a guy you can count on to keep
your country and
your children, safe from terrorists?
I think not! Give
Ron Paul the keys to the White House, and he'll probably invite
Bin Ladin for tea!
Prediction: I predict a flood democrats will rush to the defense of Ron Paul in a "non-partisan" (yeah, right) move to prove their loyalty to the truth, no matter what side of the aisle it comes from. Americans, be afraid, be very afraid of
Representative Ron Paul and those like him, who blame America for the attacks of 9/11. They are almost as dangerous to our country as the terrorists!
