Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball Softball League offers a Discounted Family Night of Bison's Baseball For a Good Cause
League Fundraising Effort on Saturday, August 2 is Designed to Support One of their Very Own who has been Diagnosed with ALS Lou Gehrig's Disease
(East Amherst, New York, June 27, 2008) Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball Softball League (LGYBS) announced it will offer a community-wide discounted family night of Bison's Baseball on Saturday, August 2, 2008 in support of raising funds for one of the Dad's, whose children play ball at the LGYBS League and ball park facility.
The Buffalo Bisons organization has provided LGYBS with the opportunity to offer discounted tickets of $10 to help raise awareness and funds to support LG Dad, Steve O'Brien. Steve was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in May of 2007. ALS is a very rapid and progressive neuromuscular disease which attacks the muscular system and nerves. Presently, Steve is almost completely paralyzed from the neck down. He has limited head and hand movements. He is unable to speak and eat foods due to the muscle degeneration of his mouth, throat, and esophagus. He communicates utilizing a communication device called a dynavox. Unbelievably, he maintains a positive spirit.
Steve was an LG manager and an assistant coach for both his sons Taylor and Brandon. He also was a coach for Williamsville Junior Football. He owned, at one time, 4 "Curves for Women" Facilities locally, and in Rochester and Batavia. Most Recently, he had opened a Personal Training Facility in East Amherst, called "FitLife", which he needed to close after 6 months, when he was no longer able to walk and successfully run the operation.
$10 tickets (A portion of the proceeds will be contributed to the O'Brien family to help offset medical expenses) are open to the public to attend the Saturday, August 2 nd Bisons vs. Syracuse game, which starts at 7:05pm. This fun evening will also include a LGYBS Parade of teams, so kids and coaches should wear their team jerseys to participate. The world's largest pitch, homerun derby and fireworks are also planned activities. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.lgbys.com or via check or cash by contacting Tammy Ames at home-639-8689 or cell-208-7717 and/or email at
