Players from the league will demonstrate moves with Rochester Rhinos Head Coach
September 27, 2007 - Ford Friendship Express, a philanthropic initiative of the Rochester Ford Dealers, today awarded a new 2008 Ford Econoline van to Easter Seals, an organization that helps individuals with disabilities and their families' live better lives. The donation marks the seventh anniversary of the Ford Friendship Express program in Rochester, which to date has donated 10 vans to Rochester area not-for-profit organizations. Keys to the van were presented by John Cortese, representative of the Rochester-Area Ford Dealers.
Easter Seals will use the 10 passenger, handicap accessible van for transporting residents to the organization's motorized soccer league games as well as outside appointments, and trips to the Rochester Rhinos professional soccer team games. Rhinos head coach, Laurie Calloway was on-hand to congratulate Easter Seals' staff, and residents, some of whom play on a motorized soccer team dubbed the "Speed Demons." Select players from the Speed Demons were given the opportunity to demonstrate their moves to the Rhinos coach.
"Over the past 11 years, Ford Friendship Express has donated vans to deserving nonprofit organizations in the communities where we work. This year, we chose Easter Seals because of its commitment to making soccer and other activities more accessible to people living with disabilities," said John Cortese, representative, Rochester-Area Ford Dealers. "Easter Seals does a phenomenal job of serving hundreds of families in our community. We're honored to have this opportunity to help them in this very important mission. "
Candidates interested in the Ford Friendship Express program must be not-for-profit organizations located and operating in the area coinciding with the Rochester Ford Dealers. Application information for next year's program will be available at www.wnyford.com or can be requested by writing to Ford Friendship Express Program, 50 Fountain Plaza, Suite 1000, Buffalo, NY, 14202.
"Handicap accessible transportation is a critical part of our service," said Lori Vanderhoof, regional director, Easter Seals. "It's a relief to know that we will be transporting our residents in a new Ford vehicle. We can't thank our Rochester-Area Ford Dealers enough."
