Amherst Highway Supervisor Robert Anderson hits a homerun at Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball & Softball.
For many years, expanding little league organization Lou Gehrig in East Amherst has been struggling with parking for their now 1200 families who attend the complex weekly.
This month Robert Anderson met with John Kenyon, Vice President of Capital Development at Lou Gehrig to discuss a way for the town to assist with designating handicap zones in the all stone parking lot. According to Mr. Anderson, there had been planned projects to pave specific roads in the Ransom Oaks neighborhood. It seemed to make sense to recycle the asphalt millings from these road projects and designate them back to town property ( where Lou Gehrig complex sits ). This move not only saved the town man-hours and transportation costs, this gave a solution to Lou Gehrig's need for help. Last week, Robert Anderson and his crew delivered enough asphalt millings to not only help designate parking for the handicap, but to widen the perimeter of rear parking lot which will ultimately improve parking. Lou Gehrig's goal is to paint parking lines and handicap zones this spring.
"This was a fantastic and creative way to help our non for profit organization. The residents who attend the summer leagues at our facility will be pleased! I commend Robert Anderson for his help." Says John Kenyon
