Words of Faith from Jill Kelly
By: Nicole Geddes
On Sunday October 21, Jill Kelly, wife of Jim Kelly the former Buffalo Bill football player and hall of fame quarterback, spoke at the Akron Free Methodist Church in Akron about her faith in God. She spoke of her son, Hunter's, struggle, and the effect it had on her and her family. Jill shared with the congregation how she became a believer.
After being informed by doctors that Jill's son, Hunter, had Krabbe Disease she said, "God just took over." He took over her life by just giving her the strength to care for Hunter, and make him comfortable in every way. Prior to this event Jill said she was caught up in the celebrity lifestyle, and when the news of Hunter hit she said, "I was a mess." Even with all the support Jill was getting from friends, family, and the public, she still felt so alone. That's when she started to come to know God, and said she has "never been happier" because of it.
When Hunter passed on, Jill said she was "brought to a place of complete desperation." At this time Jill said she actively sought out God the most, and when she did, she said she has never felt closer to him, and said, "when we seek him is when we are most satisfied."
The question people used to ask Jill the most was "has Jim been saved?" Jill said she wanted so badly for Jim to come to know God as she did.Jill's mother, Jacque, who was also present with Jill for the sermon, suggested Psalms 23 to at this time. Psalms says, "The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not be in want." Jill realized that God wants her to accept the man he put into her life for who he is.
