BUFFALO CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY ANNOUNCES 85th SEASON
7 CONCERTS BY WORLD CLASS ENSEMBLES

The Buffalo Chamber Music Society celebrates its 85st season with a 7 concert series and 3 free Gift to the Community recitals.

The 2008/2009 season opens on October 7 with a performance by renown viol consort, Fretwork. Their program to open our series is entitled "Jewish Musicians at the English Court." Trio Con Brio Copenhagen, winners of the prestigious KLR Award, performs on November 3. On January 27, the Jupiter String Quartet returns to Buffalo after a 2007 appearance on our Gift to the Community series. Winners of the Cleveland Quartet Award in 2007, their performance on our series is made possible by the Cleveland Quartet Award Endowment Fund. On February 17, the Musicians From Marlboro perform as part of an annual event on the series, made possible by a generous grant from the Peter and Joan Andrews Foundation. Their program will include the Clarinet Quintet by Brahms. On March 31, the Muir String Quartet will be joined by the venerable pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio Menahem Pressler for a performance of Brahms' monumental Piano Quintet. An ensemble praised for its dynamic performances, passionate style, and refined musical interpretation, the Borealis String Quartet performs on April 21. Our season ends with a performance by the Guarneri Quartet. As they have announced their retirement at the end of the 2008-09 season their final performance on our series will be on May 12.

Throughout the season, BCMS will also present the annual Gift to the Community concerts, a series of 3 performances by award-winning young musicians. They are: Jean-Frédéric Neuberger, piano, on September 21; Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet on October 26; and Daxun Zhang, double-bass on February 1.

The series of 7 concerts are all at 8 pm and are preceded by a "Chat with the Artists" hosted by WNED's Peter Hall at 7:15 pm. The Gift to the Community concerts are at 3 pm. All concerts are performed in Kleinhans Music Hall's Mary Seaton Room.

Tickets are $95 for a season subscription. Student subscriptions are $40. Single tickets may be purchased for any of the concerts for $20, general admission and $10 for students. For a season brochure, call 716-462-4939 or e-mail bcms@bflochambermusic.org. Go to bflochambermusic.org for more information on the season.
