'One Night of Queen' is One Night to Remember
Contributed by: Buffalo.com/YourHub Lindsay Bartkowski on 4/7/2008

On Sunday, the University at Buffalo's Center for the Arts was packed with fans looking for a good show and they got exactly what they were looking for. Gary Mullen and the Works presented "One Night of Queen." The internationally acclaimed group was as close as anyone can get to a real Queen performance. Gary Mullen and his band are the vocal, instrument, and energetic doubles of the original band. Fans were on their feet, dancing, and singing before too long.

Gary Mullen and the Works are from Glasgow, Scotland. Born and raised fans of Queen, these performers are currently in the midst of their first American tour: "We Will Rock U...SA!" Delivering an almost perfect imitation of Queen in both their instrumentation and vocals, "One Night of Queen" is an amazing example of a tribute band.

The group's members include Gary Mullen, the lead vocalist, Davie Brockett on guitar, Billy Moffat on bass guitar, Jonathan Evans on drums, and Martin Campbell on keyboards.

They rocked the stage with such songs as "Somebody to Love," "Another One Bites the Dust," and "Don't Stop Me Now" in the first half of their performance. After a quick intermission, the band was back on stage and demonstrated their wide range of abilities: not only can they rock a song like "We Will Rock You," but they showed their softer side with an excellent rendition of "Love of My Life," an acoustic ballad featuring their lead guitarist and the Freddie Mercury-esque vocals of Gary Mullen.

A special guest was invited to the stage during the second half: a very young fan in the front row found himself on stage and loving it. This lucky fan went home with a pair of drumsticks and a lot of memories.

After the show, Gary Mullen came out - without his mustache and make up - to sign autographs and take photos with eager fans. Despite his huge stage presence and the power of his voice, Gary Mullen is as down to earth as a musician can come.

This lucky reporter went home with an autograph, a photo with Gary Mullen, and with the memory of "One Night of Queen" as one of the most energetic concerts to come to the Buffalo area.
