Niagara University's Office of Continuing and Community Education will offer a College Board-endorsed advanced placement summer institute (APSI) from July 23 to 27. The institute is for biology, English literature, calculus AB, and European history teachers who want to prepare for AP teaching or advance their skills in those courses.
The APSI will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program is geared toward new or relatively new teachers of AP, though it is also open to experienced teachers.
Emphasis will be placed on preparing, running and evaluating the required curriculum and, as needed, any laboratory experiences. An analysis of past AP exams will be included, as well as a discussion of the scoring categories and the grading of the free-response section of the exam. Techniques and strategies for teaching the course, as well as best practices, will also be discussed.
