Blog Entry 13 of 35 The Narrative Opinions of Artica Burr
I'm a Buffalo native and author of fiction. I do like to spin a yarn so -dunno, dunno, if I'll deal you fact or fiction when I blog. To be honest as a spring breeze there is always a shred of truth. Up to YOU to find it! Oh, and skip my blogs if you lack humor or varied subject matter. Like it or not I think in what some call Narrative Verse. My pen name is Artica Burr, my Buffalo born name Cheryl Hugenschmidt, my married name Cheryl Goodrich, and my educational web site is located at www.articaburr.com Now you are fair warned! From time to time I address a more serious areas of concern. Might I mention there is no way to minus rate me!

91 Blackbirds Make A Quinny Pie
Contributed by: Artica Burr   on 5/1/2008

Out shot but not defeated, Philly is serving up a healthy slice of pie to fans in playoffs against Montreal. Speed and steady determination kept the Philly wins cooking last night. Faces on the Philly bench attested to a deep seated unity of thinking and effort. With no doubt upon their faces, and no time to waste energy they did nothing but improve their piece in the playoffs. No bad apples just good strong hockey.

The pie was in the oven at the end of second period. Cameras caught Martin Biron mask up, leaving the net talking a mile a minute to himself. He was setting a pace and mindset that would keep a win in the oven. Marty's solid play and aggressive goalie stances kept Montreal's remaining teeth rattling and their goalies more than a bit unnerved. Briere looked lean, fast, and added his own recipe of magic hockey ingredients. The clutch twinkle was evident in his eye.

It not only takes great coaching but every single player's effort to bring forth such wins. Philly has a whole pie of players who showed they have the can do, and can cook it up again. Local eyes follow Briere and Biron on ice despite their change of uniform. Both were Sabres long enough to become sons of the Buffalo community. They represent to many the taste of good hockey as well as the attributes of Buffalo determination, spirit, hard work, and high levels of accomplishment. The Philly team is enjoying their just deserts with standing ovations from the crowds.

The final camera shot of Martin Biron, tromping like a tried and true gladiator, leading his team mates off to the locker room was classic Marty. Apparent was a projection of all the solid confidence and steaming readiness for yet the next game. It surely did not depict a goalie who ever warranted a lot of cooling time on the bench.

About now Quinny pie has Biron 43 blackbirds baked in it, and an additional Briere 48. Would the Sabre's fans have ever traded or let these two go? No way. It appears the powers that be may continue to eat crow. The pie was opened. The Flyer's are taking off and fans are sure singing.
