Pardon my alliterated title, but no other words so accurately describe the forum on faith and politics, sponsored by the liberal evangelical Sojourners, at George Washington University on Monday.
Senators Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards took advantage of their allotted 15-minutes, to make heartfelt declarations of faith, while responding to questions on religion and morality in government, posed by CNN host Solidad O'Brien, and church leaders from across the country. Given the gig, I'm certain they were able to prepare nicely. It appears the only thing missing was
someone biting his lower lip.
The trio of 2008 Democratic candidates was invited by Jim Wallis, Sojourners founder and author of new book: "God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It." Wallis an evangelical speaker has called on the religious left to become more politically active, an idea which has caught on with many left wing incumbents and hopefuls.
It comes as no great surprise that dems are filling the pews in an effort to convince moderate and conservative voters, that spiritual and moral fortitude are alive and well in the democratic party. Jesus is the new haute couture
of the left, who have donned religion as easily as a new pair of jeans. If it weren't so transparent, it might be touching to hear John Edwards confess "
I sin every single day; we are all sinners and we all fall short."
Yeah, right.
