Are you sick of Paris?
Hmmmm.....apparently not, or you would not have clicked into this article. But since you're here, you may as well read on.
She's everywhere, it's true. Her story has trumped Iraq on the evening news, and the FOX NEWS CHANNEL is now ALL PARIS, ALL THE TIME. She's the subject of talking points across the airwaves, and headlines in all the papers.
She's the big story.
But why?
Why do we care?
Why do we care so much about Paris Hilton? That's the
real "big story".
I've thought about this, to borrow a phrase from my fifteen-year-old, "til my brain hurts". I even Googled the question, hoping someone, somewhere had the answer.
Apparently, I'm not the only one asking the question. My search for
"
why do we care about Paris Hilton" got
4,040,000 hits.
I though I was on to something when I read the following response at YAHOO ANSWER:
"It's not that we care, unfortunately the media continually throws her at us."
Until I read the next line...
"poor pampered princess."
That's some pretty definite caring, if you ask me.
And so, after reading dozens of responses like the one above, it's obvious that, even though we say we don't care about Paris Hilton, we really do.
Again I ask...
Why?
Is it because she's rich and
"famous for being famous"?
Is it because of some perceived injustice in our own lives, we want to see someone else
"get what they deserve"?
Or is it because somewhere deep inside, there's a sadistic part in all of us that enjoys seeing people publicly ridiculed and humiliated?
"Not me", you say?
Hmmm......
Then
why do you care?
